We are honored to share that Mall of Istanbul – a dynamic mixed-use development in Istanbul, Turkey, designed by DDG – has earned the Design Award for New Developments – Large/Extra Large ICSC at this year’s ICSC-European Design & Development Awards.
This is the 40th anniversary of the Awards which ICSC presents to the best retail developments in Europe. ICSC inspects and assesses in detail each center during on-site visits by a jury comprised of senior international industry figures. The six various category ICSC European Shopping Centre Award Winners were selected from 12 finalists representing ten countries across Europe. Announcing the winners, the ICSC jury chair, Joao Correia de Sampaio noted, “These projects are remarkable not only for their interior and exterior design and innovative architectural features but also for their well-planned tenant-mix and for their commercial and economic success.”
Mall of Istanbul, a 3.8-million-square-foot project multi-use development features distinctive retail, residential and office components, as well as a high-rise hotel and a 15-screen cinema, all literally and figuratively focused around a spectacular central entertainment component. Four adjacent residential towers stand atop landscaped podiums, which connect to the green roof of the mall proper via a series of pedestrian skybridges. Aesthetically and architecturally, the Mall of Istanbul draws its foundational inspiration from the varied layers of culture, design, history, forms, symbols, mosaics, materials and unique places and spaces that have evolved over the centuries in this unique Eurasian metropolis. The Mall of Istanbul complex aspires to become the place to shop, live, work, stay and be entertained—to enjoy and celebrate the unique heritage of this world-class city.
Congratulations to everyone on the DDG team who made Mall of Istanbul – and the ICSC Award – a reality!
