Construction Update from Indonesia – Pondok Indah InterContinental Hotel

We are excited to report that construction is progressing rapidly on the Five-Star Intercontinental business hotel and convention center, the newest phase of Jakarta’s iconic Pondok Indah – the city’s first modern mall which has continued to redefine the city’s lifestyle district over the past two decades.

Designed by DDG, the InterContinental features a stunning wave-and-curve shape that draws inspiration from Indonesia’s rich culture and landscape. The hotel itself will have 325 rooms and 300 branded apartments, as well as a convention facility that can accommodate up to 3,000 people, roof terraces for outdoor functions, four levels of underground parking, and a helicopter pad.

The hotel, which is scheduled to open in fall 2016, sits atop Pondok Indah II, one of four quadrants that comprise Pondok Indah – all of which are linked together as a quartet of uniquely individual, yet well-synchronized communities.

Pondok Indah II is vibrantly themed across three linked sectors: a contemporary American court; an old-world European court; and a vivid Asian court. The underground traffic circulation between the flanking Pondok Indah I and III and the various sky bridge connections to the malls offer multiple points of safe pedestrian access to an extended retail and recreational experience.

As Jakarta’s first modern mall, Pondok Indah not only transformed the city’s retail paradigm, but also continually challenged DDG to respond to changing market conditions and several expansions. Our design was intended to create powerful vertical draws at opposite ends of the entire Pondok Indah complex, while maintaining a strong focus on the highly successful retail components Today, Pondok Indah remains a sustainable, easily accessible mixed-use district that integrates existing retail, entertainment, and dining options with new residential, hotel, and office buildings – all while bypassing much of Jakarta’s notorious traffic!

We’ll keep you posted on developments and progress as the InterContinental nears completion.
