Only a tiny percentage of all architects practice the kind of conceptual design that Pipat Esara has mastered. His hand-drawn renderings are deceptively simple, translating concepts for three-dimensional built environments onto paper in ways that not only convey mass, scale and proportion, but that also bring an idea to life.
Pipat first began to develop his skills at Bangkok’s Chulalongkorn University. After a stint as an architect in Thailand in the early 1970s, he enrolled at Catholic University in Washington, DC, earned a master’s in urban design and began to refine his technique. Pipat’s special expertise involves more than just the ability to draw – an activity that has fascinated him from early childhood – but the talent to take written storylines or abstract concepts and transform them into fully realized imagery.
