SouthSide Works Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
Located on the site of a former steel mill on the Monongahela River, SouthSide Works is an ambitious, mixed-use project that revitalizes a stretch of Pittsburghís waterfront. With 123 acres of retail, residential, office, hotel and entertainment space, SouthSide combines the cityís gritty, industrial heritage with the neighborhoodís traditional "ìbeatnik" style reminiscent of SoHo and Tribeca. In addition to a gourmet market, the project includes a ten-screen cinema, an open-air amphitheater cascading down to the riverfront and numerous restaurants and cafes offering sidewalk and waterside seating. Condominiums overlook the river, and SouthSide features both office and residential loft spaces surrounding the central square. Five aboveground parking garages provide abundant parking for three freestanding corporate office buildings, a 200-key waterfront hotel and conference facility.
