The New Urbanism movement began in the early 80s as an antidote to America's bland and sprawling suburbs. The basic principles of human scale, high density housing located close to stores and offices, and pedestrian-friendly streets, are present in many new communities today. Design Group's distinctive town center designs draw inspiration from ideas such as the street grid of small-town mid-America of the 30s, or the curves found in an African village, and translate them in ways that reinvent the town center formula.
